PCI Geomatics Brings APEX Version 7.0 to GIS and Remote Sensing Users
Richmond Hill, Ontario - July 26, 2000: PCI Geomatics is pleased to announce the release of APEX Version 7.0. APEX (Aerial Photo elevation EXtraction) is PCI Geomatics' 3D digital stereo imagery orthorectification and DEM extraction product that supports image-based softcopy applications such as map-making, terrain analysis, and photo interpretation. APEX Version 7.0 includes optional "stereo-in-window" functionality with smooth roam and is available for use immediately on Windows NT platforms only.

For this release, additional effort was made to fine tune APEX Version 7.0. New capabilities have been added and improvements have been made to the Data Sharing, Orthorectification, Mosaicking, Terrain Extraction, Triangulation, Image Display, and Feature Extraction tools.

The ability to import and export GeoTiff images is now available and allows users to do so in all coordinate systems. ESRI ArcGrid terrain files can now be converted to and from APEX terrain files. In addition, shapefiles (both 2D and 3D) can be converted to/from APEX feature databases, preserving all feature attributes.

Orthorectification and mosaicking can now take place within APEX or users may take advantage of OrthoEngine's mosaicking tools. Other attractive additions include the availability of full projection and datum support for a wide range of default and new user-defined systems, feature extraction is now much more user friendly, and a fully automatic interior orientation - no user interaction required!

"This is one of the most attention-getting pieces of stereo air photo software technology ever to be adopted by the geomatics industry to date." Dr Robert Moses, President and CEO, PCI Geomatics.

APEX supports a variety of applications, including populating a GIS database (vector or raster), producing image maps, terrain analysis, geological analysis, and more. APEX consists of over sixty application functions that can be chained together to form a processing flow that inputs imagery, performs the requisite analysis, and produces the final hardcopy or softcopy products.
